Catfish Festival
May 22-25, 2019

Held at Ware Shoals during Memorial Day weekend, Catfish Festival is an annual celebration attended by more than 20,000 people.

There are fun carnival rides for kids, as well as a number of arts and crafts booths. In the evenings, the streets are closed off so revelers can dance the night away.

In addition to the traditional Southern-style fried catfish and catfish stew served during the fest, the weekend-long celebration features a variety of food vendors offering a range of cuisines like Caribbean, Greek, and Mexican.

The Festival started in 1981 when over a ton of catfish was fished from the shallows during the Rigel Textile Company’s annual draining of their pool and dam site.

South Carolina Festival of Discovery
July 11-13, 2019

The South Carolina Festival of Discovery is an event held in Uptown Greenwood every July. Now on its 19th year, the festival has become one of the region’s most awaited celebrations.

The fest combines delicious food, live music, a rich history, and the joys of rural American living into one award-winning event. Learn about the Upstate area and Greenwood County. Discover South Carolina’s folklore, traditional arts, crafts, music, dance, and more of what makes up the region’s diverse culture.

Other highly anticipated events in the Festival of Discovery are the Carolina Barbecue and Black Kettle Hash competition and the South Caroline State Championship cook-off. These events have the backing of the Kansas City Barbeque Society and features the best and most talented barbecue cooks in the US. There’s also the Kids Que where young chefs can show off their grilling skills.

The Festival also has an Arts and Crafts show where you can shop for unique items like handmade soap, jewelry, and more.

South Carolina Festival of Stars
June 28-29, 2019

The South Carolina Festival of Stars is a pre-Independence Day celebration on the weekend before the Fourth of July. It happens in the town of Ninety Six, the location of the National Historic Site of Star Fort Battle. This is where the first battle of the American Revolution was fought in the South.

The festival started in 2009 as a Fireworks Extravaganza but later evolved into a weekend-long festival. Alongside the spectacular fireworks show, the South Carolina Festival of Stars offers a wide range of activities, games, and events perfect for the whole family.
